Ruby – A Personal History
On 6th August, 1967 the Trenor Motor Company at 120 West Main Street, Springfield, Ohio delivered a brand new Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham in Regent Maroon colour to a Mr Curran of St Paris Park, Springfield.
The Brougham models for that year featured a padded ‘Cordova’ vinyl roof with Cadillac emblems, automatic self levelling suspension, automatic headlight dipping mechanism, fold down drinks trays and carpeted foot-rests.
Weighing a colossal 2.1 Tonnes and measuring nearly 20 feet long, it will seat six people comfortably as it wafts along effortlessly.
One of 12,750 Cadillac Fleetwood cars built that year, costing $8250 and fully loaded with all the latest creature comforts and a powerful 7 litre V8 engine, it was the epitome of luxury motoring. It remained a treasured member of the Curran household until 2000 when it was sold having covered only 18,000 miles.
The car’s second owner who lived in California added only another 5000 miles up to 2005 when I bought it from him and imported it to the UK. In 2010, it shows 26,000 miles and is immaculate inside and out.
